The UAHuntsville Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) offers qualified students the opportunity to gain practical work experience while earning an income and degree. Students work in commercial or government jobs directly related to their fields of study. There are many benefits to his multi-term, professional experience, including clarity of career choice, increased understanding of classroom theory, enhancement of marketability to employers following graduation and networking with professionals.

There are two basic Co-op models:

(1) Alternating Schedule - Students rotate work and school terms with a single employer. Ideally, students complete a minimum of three full-time work assignments. Each work assignment is 15-17 weeks.
(2) Parallel Schedule - Students work part-time and attend school part-time simultaneously. Ideally, undergraduate students complete a minimum of three consecutive semesters and graduate students complete a minimum of two consecutive semesters.

To qualify for the Co-op Program, students must be degree-seeking and must be authorized to work in the United States.

To maintain eligibility in the Co-op Program, students must do the following:

  • Register for the appropriate Co-op section each term and pay the associated fees.
  • Complete forms at the beginning and end of each work term.
  • Receive a satisfactory work evaluation by supervisor.
